Our Centre is Association with CREDAI had organized a press meet on 29.09.2010 at Hotel Rail Tree, Chennai to highlight the unprecedented rise. On behalf of our centre another press meet at Chennai press club was addressed by the Action Committee Chairman Mr. R. Radhakrishnan on 12.10.2010 explaining the unwarranted price hike which was telecast in the media and published in leading newspapers next day.
On 21.10.2010 it was decided at the office to hold a protest rally along with other organisations on 28.10.2010 to condemn the cement price hike. On 22.10.2010 our members also participated in the protest held at Ambattur. As prelude to the protest rally a press meet was arranged at Chennai Press Club on 27.10.2010.
Protest rally condemning the cement price hike commenced from Rajarathnam Stadium, Chennai on 28.10.2010 in which a recode number of over 50000 persons participated. A one day bandh was also observed on that day in all the construction sites. At the end of the rally a memorandum detailing the unprecedented price hike and seeking Government’s intervention was submitted. In the evening a meeting was held at Hotel Ashoka, Chennai to consider various options like boycotting some brands, import of cement etc.
To highlight the scarcity of sand and the reduction in Registration fee, a meeting was arranged at 3.30 pm in Cosmopolitan Club on 04.04.2017. Members of Affiliated Association and the Members of the Agitation Committee participated in the meeting. Finally, it was decided with the concurrence of all the members of Agitation Committee were heard and it was resolved to go for one day fast with strike.
Following the decision to go for strike taken in the previous meeting, one day strike with fasting was observed on 06.07.2017 from 9 am to 5 pm.
In the presence of Mr.R.Radhakrishnan, All India Past President and under the Leadership of Mr.K.Venkatesan, Chairman, Southern centre, the members of Agitation Committee raised slogans to express their protest, staged agitation to draw the attention of government. More than 25 Associations related to Builders’ fraternity took part in this agitation.
This protest was carried out in the presence of Mr.V.N.Varadarajan, All India Vice President, Mr.G.Vedanand, State President, Mr.Ponkumar, Former President of Tamilnadu construction – Employees Welfare Board, Mr.Suresh Krishna, Chairman, CREDAI, Chennai, Mr.S.Yuvaraj, Chairman of Tamilnadu Sand Lorry Owners’ Federation, Mr.Mu.Moahan, All India Immediate Vice President worked as a co-ordinator of this Agitation Committee. More than 25,000 agitators joined the agitation from various Associations.
