All India Builders Convention | 23.01.2011

24TH All India Builders Convention was inaugurated by Hon. Union Finance Minister Sri. Pranab Mukherjee by lighting the Traditional Lamp. Mr. Mu. Moahan, Chairman- Southern Centre made the Welcome Address. Souvenir of the convention was released by Hon. Union Minister for shipping Sri. G.K. Vasan. Chief Post Master General Smt. Shanthi Nayar released the Special Postal cover. All India past Presdient Sri. R. radhakrishnan addressed the problems and submitted memorandum to the Union Finance Minister. Sri. G.K. Vasan Hon. Union Minister for shipping made the special address. Hon. Union Minister for Finance Sri. Pranab Mukherjee in his address congratulated Builders Association of India for the services rendered in highlighting problems and solving them and also for the Diamond Jubilee year Celebration.

By referring to mr. R. Radhakrishnan’s speech, he informed that Government was aware of the problems of construction industry and very soon a policy would be announced on the same. He requested the Builders to implement new technologies and Green Building concepts in the construction industry. He also requested to join hands with NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) to create skilled workers keeping in mind that the requirement of the skilled workers would be around three crores in 2022. He thanked Builders Association of India for having given the opportunity to participate in this convention and wished the New Year to be very prosperous to the builders and to the country as a whole. More than 1000 members participated in the convention. Light music programme of Anuradha Sriram was arranged with special dinner for the participants.

24.01.2011 Technical session was inaugurated by Dr. A. Ramakrishnan- Director, International Infrastructure Consultants (P) Ltd and addressed the gathering. Mr. K.P. Pradeep – Chairman, Technical session committee introduced the them of the convention. Technical session was continued on various subjects related to the construction industry till 4.00 pm. In the evening a cultural programme on Tamil Nadu Folk dances was organized at MGM Beach Resort, Chennai with special dinner for the participants.

25.01.2011 Technical session was held till lunch. During post lunch session members were requested to comment on convention celebrations. Most of the members appreciated the arrangements and efforts taken for the success of the convention. Shri. Bhagavan JH Deokar, All India president and All India past President and Convention Committee chairman Sri. R. Radhakrishnan thanked everyone for helping to make this convention a grand success. Mementos were presented by all India president Sri. Bhagavan J Deokar to the sponsorers and also to the sub committee Chairmen for the support rendered by them.

At 4.30 pm Honorable State Finance Minister Sri. K. Anbazhagan had participated as Chief Guest in the valedictory function. Sri. R. Radhakrishnan, All India past President and Convention Committee Chairman explained the problems faced by the construction industry regarding service tax and commercial tax and requested the Honorable Minister to redress the same.

Honorable Finance Minister Sri. K. Anbazhagan presented the Life Time Achievement Award to Sri. R. Radhakrishnan, All India past President for his valuable services rendered to the construction fraternity.

While addressing the gathering Hon. Finance Minister Sri. K. Anbazhagan assured that the problems related to service tax and commercial tax will be explained to the Chief Minister of Tamil nadu and do the necessary resolve.

Also he reiterated that if alternate construction materials like fly ash or crushed sand were not permitted for the usage by the Government, he would discuss with the Chief Minister of Tamil nadu and form an Expert Team and based on the approval of the team, necessary steps would be taken to implement the scheme by the State Government.
