Seminar on Optimization of Structures ( Strength & Economy)

On 26-05-2023, a seminar on “OPTIMIZATION OF STRUCTURES (Strength & Economy) inviting well-known speaker Mr. A.Karthikeyan, ME., MIE., MIGS., FIV, Chartered Engineer (India), Professional Engineer (ECI), Structural & Geotech., Consultant, M/s Karthikeyan Associates Chennai engaged in this field to take part in the seminar as Guest Speaker at Builders’ Association of India, Southern Centre premises, Padma Bhushan Dr.A.Ramakrishna Auditorium, Ambattur, Chennai-600058.

To know present information, a wealth of ideas, to enrich the knowledge and to utilize the opportunity by the younger generation, Students from various Engineering Colleges were invited to participate in the seminar.

The meeting was well attended by around 125 members and Students from VIT-Chennai, SSN College of Engineering, Velammal College of Engineering, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering.

The meeting was started with the welcome address of Centre Chairman, Mr. A.N. Balaji and Mr. N.G.Lokanathan, Chairman, Seminar Committee has introduced the Guest Speaker and informed that Er. A.Karthikeyan an eminent Structural Engineer who received many Awards and last year he received Construction Industry Award -2022 from Thiru R.N. Ravi, Honorable Governor of Tamilnadu for Excellence in structural Repair and Rehabilitation. He also runs “Karthikeyan Academy for Civil Engineers”.

Er. A.Karthikeyan explained about What is Structure, Optimization and Optimization of Structures. He informed that optimization of structure is nothing but minimize material cost and maximize the strength. He explained the following to the participants:

• Plan of Building
• Structural Forms
• RCC Structures
• Various Forces
• Importance of soil test
• What to do if soil is not good
• Advantages of Stone columns etc.

All the participants were benefitted with this educational and knowledge sharing seminar. Students and Faculties thanked the Chairman,BAI-Southern Centre for giving them an opportunity to participate in such a useful seminar. Bhishma Mr.R.Radhakrishnan, Past National President and Past Trustee in his keynote address thanked the Chairman for arranging a wonderful and useful seminar.

Participation certificates were issued to all the Students by Bhishma Mr.R.Radhakrishnan, Past National President and Past Trustee and Mr. Mu.Moahan, Trustee and Past National President, BAI. The Seminar was concluded with the Vote of Thanks of Mr. R.Nimrode, Hon.Secretary.
