Chairman & Sub Committee Members of RERA Committee, Builders’ Association of India, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and BAI Southern Centre organised a Seminar on Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) on 25th July 2024 at BAI Southern Centre premises, Padma Bhushan Dr. A. Mr. R.R. Shridhar, Past Chairman, BAI-Southern Centre, initiated the seminar by inviting all guests to the dais.

Mr. N.G. Lokanathan, Chairman, BAI-Southern Centre, delivered the welcome address, expressing gratitude to the BAI-TN State Chairman and RERA Committee Chairman for organizing the event at BAI-Southern Centre premises.

Mr. L. Shantha Kumar, Chairman, RERA Committee, Tamil Nadu, addressed the attendees, emphasizing the significance of TNRERA.

Mr. B. Palanivel, State Chairman, BAI Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, delivered the inaugural address. He highlighted the initial apprehensions about TNRERA among promoters and explained how the organization facilitates both sellers and buyers, ensuring quick approvals through an online application process.

Mr. R. Sivakumar, Vice President, BAI South Zone II, expressed his gratitude to Mr. B. Palanivel for the opportunity to host the seminar at the BAI-Southern Centre.

Bhishma Mr. R. Radhakrishnan welcomed the Chief Guest and all dignitaries. He praised TNRERA's exemplary functioning, attributing its success to the current Chairperson-in-charge, Mr. Sunil Kumar, IPS (Retd), and the past Chairperson, Mr. Gnanadesikan, IAS. He noted that TNRERA efficiently grants permissions within four days of online application, setting a benchmark for other departments in Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Sunil Kumar, IPS (Retd), Chairperson-Incharge, TNRERA, reassured attendees that TNRERA regulations benefit both sellers and buyers. He highlighted the construction industry's 7.1% contribution to GDP and its potential to reach 15%. Tamil Nadu ranks second in the country for RERA registrations. He emphasized that TNRERA protects both parties, ensuring that promises made by sellers are honored. He also mentioned the efficient online system launched on 1st March 2024, which clears applications daily if all requirements are met.

Chairperson Mr. Sunil Kumar IPS (Retd), Mr. S. Selvakumar, Additional Director (Operations), and Mr. N. Prabhakaran, Law Officer, answered participants' questions, addressing their concerns and doubts.

Mr. Mu. Moahan, Trustee and Past President, BAI thanked the Chief Guest and his team for their participation. He praised Mr. L. Shanthakumar for organizing the seminar. He requested the Chairperson, TNRERA to suggest that TANGEDCO and CMWSSB for quick clearance process to avoid delays in obtaining electricity and drainage/water connections, which impact project timelines and financial planning.

Mr. K. Venkatesan, State Secretary, BAI Tamil Nadu, delivered the vote of thanks.

The seminar concluded with the National Anthem, followed by lunch. Approximately 140 members from various BAI Tamil Nadu centres attended, benefitting from the informative and insightful seminar.
